What Size Hot end should I pick for my Printer?
Currently we sale six different hot ends the J-Head with .35mm, .40mm and the .50mm nozzles the hexagon with a .40mm nozzle, the Magma with a .40mm nozzle and the e3d-v6 hot ends.

Print speed/resolution is determined by two things, the nozzle size and the hot end style.
  • The smaller the nozzle size (.30mm) the slower the print speed, the larger the nozzle (.50mm) the faster the print speed.
  • For the hot end type the Magma, E3d-v6 and Hexagon hot ends can print at speeds upto 200mm/s, the jhead will print at lower speeds upto 60mm/s.  For example, a .30mm hexagon will still print at almost twice the speed as the .50mm jhead.
Should I pick 3mm or 1.75mm filament?
  • Since the print speed and resolution is determined by the nozzle size they are not effected by the filament diameter.  If you plan to change your extruder to a direct drive or bowden setup go with 1.75mm filament, or if you want to use speciality filaments also use 1.75mm.
  1. .35mm Jhead can print ABS and PLA, max print speed is about 30mm/s
  2. .50mm Jhead can print ABS and PLA, max print speed is about 60mm/s
  3. .40mm Magma can print ABS, PVA, Polycarbonate and HIPS, max print speed is 200mm/s + (DOES NOT PRINT PLA)
  4. .40mm Jhead for 1.75mm filament, can print ABS and PLA max print speed is 200mm/s
  5. .40mm hexagon can print ABS, PLA, PVA, Polycarbonate and HIPS max print speed is 200mm/s
  6. .40mm hexagon can print ABS, PLA, PVA, Polycarbonate and HIPS max print speed is 200mm/s
